A-American Electric is a leader in electrical contracting work with more than 40 years in business.

Briefly scan A-American Electric’s 212 Google reviews and you will find that certain words and phrases are repeated: “exceptional experience, detailed, accurate assessment, outstanding, professional, dedicated.” What was once a small service business 40 years ago is now a leader in the electrical contracting business and continues to be a family-owned local business.

Three generations work at A-American Electric (AAE) and all have attended T.C. Roberson High School. Started in 1981 by Phil Wilson, AAE today is operated by Phil’s son, Kris Wilson. Grandson Christian is currently learning the business while he works to obtain his electrical license. While high school has certainly changed a lot from the 1960s, when Phil attended, to 2020, when Christian graduated, the Wilsons are local to Asheville and “serving friends and customers who live in the community is what motivates us to grow our business,” Kris says.

Founded on high-quality installations and serving people well, A-American Electric is known for its exceptional service by developing customer relationships through timely responses, efficient work and genuine kindness. “Our business is unique because we have three separate departments focused on service calls, residential construction and commercial wiring. With more than 100 team members, AAE has the capacity to handle most projects,” Kris explains. “Caring about neighbors and building long-lasting relationships has been the key to our success.”

A-American Electric is purpose-driven to make a difference in the lives of those they do business with and is community-minded, working with local charities and pro bono projects. AAE has an internal volunteer H.E.L.P. (Helping Employees Love People) team, which looks for needs within the organization and also comes up with ideas on how to contribute to the community. In the last year, AAE’s H.E.L.P. team organized local service events and provided opportunities for charitable giving that fulfills the company’s overall purpose.

“Our purpose statement is: ‘To be known as a charitable electrical contracting company, where teammates are proud to work, vendors are treated fairly and customers receive the highest-quality service,’” says Kris. “This statement is what our company operates by each day.”

Living up to its tagline of “powered to serve,” A-American Electric has made homes safe for 40 years.
